A VISIT TO URBAN NECTAR: Where Art and Food Come Together
The sign sets the tone for Urban Nectar, which has a hip and natural feel. This store set my senses all a tingle, by combing two of my favorite things; food and art.
On top of that I received a friendly greeting from owners, Shanen and Christie. I love a good chat with the people behind the business, which you get to do plenty of in Berlin. Urban Nectar is like a bud preparing to bloom, lots of wonderful goods on hand, but more to come.
I found plenty of wholesome food options from local honey to fermented salsa, whole grains and fresh veggies, even though it wasn’t farmer’s market day.
On Thursday afternoons you will find a full on indoor farmers market though. I was super excited to see many varieties of Dr. Praeger’s veggie burgers.
I love those things. In the Eastern Shore world where we love to deep fry everything, it can sometimes to be challenging to find some truly good for you options. While I love my deep fried foods, (in fact, I had some awesome buffalo oysters at Leaky Pete’s on Saturday) I am pretty sure we would deep fry lettuce here if we could just figure out how.
Urban Nectar would also be a great place to check out for your Christmas shopping with handmade, scarves, signs, hats, jewelry, paintings and pottery. Check our this uber cool planter carved into driftwood.
Hmm, might have to buy myself a gift.
Urban Nectar is spreading more joy my way with foodie and art classes. If you’re like me and love learning new things, check out their class schedule. Some of my personal favorites on the upcoming schedule are: Bread Baking, Soapmaking, and a Succulent Tapestry Workshop. There is even a class on cheese and yogurt making. Don’t feel like making food yourself? The commercial kitchen is being built as you read, so you can get healthy ready made for you soon.
You can even get everything to keep your body looking as healthy as it feels, with organic wellness products. So where do you find all this goodness? The Urban Nectar building is almost directly across the street from Burley Oak Brewing Company on Old Ocean City Blvd. Look for this building because the exterior sign isn’t up just yet.
Look for them on Facebook or give them a call at 410-430-2222. They are open everyday from 10am until 7 pm. Don’t mess this new gem.
