ALPACA FARM FUN: Farm Life in Berlin, MD
It was a beautiful day, the last weekend in September and I was in the mood to do something different. Ocean Breeze Alpaca was celebrating National Alpaca Farm Days at the Breezy Barn. I love alpaca wool and am intrigued by the idea of raising alpacas, so I had to go check it out!
The celebration included a chance to walk around the farm, talk to the owners, shop in the store and watch yarn being spun, but best if all you could feed and pet the alpacas.
The first thing I learned about alpacas is that they are very friendly, especially if they think you have feed for them.
Two of the alpacas were pregnant and due any day. They have since had their babies. You can check them out on the Breezy Barn Facebook site. Click here. Talk about adorable!
Dave Taylor took the time to talk to us and answer my many questions about raising alpaca.
Then we took a look around the shop. There are some great gift items there – including some I want for myself – like the alpaca wool shoe inserts. Alpaca is an amazingly soft and warm wool. I love my alpaca socks. Maybe soon, I’ll have an alpaca sweater too! I learned enough to know that raising alpacas is probably not for me. It’s great to live in town, but have the ability to visit a farm within a ten minute drive. I love small towns!
