BOOKS,BOOKS,BOOKS: Berlin’s New Library
Saturday brought a blustery fall day that would do Winne the Pooh proud, but that didn’t stop Berlin’s BLOC party, a celebration of our new library. On view for all to see were sketches and floor plans of the new building.
The plans boast about 11,00 square feet of space with a large children’s area, much more space for computers, a large multi-purpose room and handicap accessibility. There will also be gallery space and a room to share our local history. There will be many windows and porches to let in natural light and to bring the outdoors in. The architecture includes dormers for an appearance that will fit well with Berlin’s historic style. I for one, am hoping that the extra space also translates into more books! I love our little library now with so much packed into such a little space but I’m thinking that bigger is going to be better.
The BLOC party offered food, a few craft vendors, a little food, music and fun stuff for the kids like pony rides, face painting and balloon animals. There were plenty of kids running around having a great time in what will be the Library’s new back yard. The lot which is on Harrison Avenue right behind the old library, will still have some open space left even after building that big new library.
