I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE; Staying in Berlin, MD
Staying in Berlin, Md
I know the feeling. You come check out the town and there is more you want to do. Can you stay? Sure you can, but you might have to be a little lucky, depending on the time of year or better yet you might want to plan ahead. Here are the options right in town.
The Atlantic Hotel
This is the heart of Berlin, in more ways than one. First of all it is centrally located – all roads leading into Berlin meet here. Many of the towns activities happen right on the doorstep.
The hotel was built in 1895 and has been lovingly restored. If you love old buildings, you are guaranteed to love this hotel. The renovation of this hotel inspired others and marked the beginning of the revitalization of historic downtown Berlin. Did you ever see Runaway Bride? Many of the scenes were filmed here, so you too can sit on the same porch as Richard Gere and have a drink and often listen to some live music. You can eat here at The Drummer’s Cafe, dining inside or out or on the screened in porch if you can’t decide. The only meal they don’t offer is breakfast. This is one of the most popular spots in town for good reason. Brad and I stayed here on our first visit to Berlin and loved every minute of it. Our room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated and the front office folks were all friendly and helpful. Click on the link above for more info.
The Holland House
An historic home this bed and breakfast has an inviting porch and friendly hosts to welcome you to The Holland House. Inside a warm fireplace continues the welcoming feel. The location is wonderful, just a few steps from Main St., but just far enough away from the center of the action to offer a little more quiet and privacy. Your stay comes with a full breakfast and a garden to sit and relax in , complete with an outdoor shower to wash off that beach sand. Brad and I have not stayed here. We have attempted twice, but they were booked both times. Third try could be the charm? Click on the link above for more info.
The Waystead Inn
A large victorian home that sits on an acre and a half in historic Berlin, the ultimate in privacy. This bed and breakfast offers a full breakfast and a few more unexpected things, such as cooking classes, themed dinners and even special private dinner requests for you and your friends. These treats require a little planning ahead, but certainly offer a different kind of experience than other places in town. You’ll have a short, but pleasant walk to Main St. shopping and events, but you’ll be right across the street from the farmer’s market if you are in town on Friday afternoon. One of those cooking classes is sounding like a lot of fun right now. Click on the link above for more info.
That’s all folks…..
That about sums up the places that you can stay that are right in town, but there is talk around town of a motel being built on RT 113 on the south end of town. Stay tuned for progress on that front. There are plenty of places to stay in Ocean City and West Ocean City or if you are the outdoorsy type, you could always camp at Assateague. Or you could always be like us and just buy a house, so you don’t have to miss out on any of the fun!
