OKTOBERFEST IN BERLIN, MD: A Party in the Streets
Last Saturday was another great day in Berlin, MD. This year’s Oktoberfest included a lot of new activities. The were plenty of activities for the kids, like pumpkin painting and scarecrow making.
There were some pretty amazing little painted faces walking around town too.
My favorite new event was the Born To Be Wild Assataegue Hobby Horse Steeplechase, organized by the Assateague Island Alliance. The steeplechase course was not long and only three teams competed this year, but it sure was fun. I laughed so hard, I cried. How many times in your adult life do you get to do that? The race started a little later than planned, but trust me there was plenty of pre-game entertainment. Check out these pics Click on the pic to see the whole photo:
I hope AIA does this again next year even though there weren’t a lot of teams this year. Next year I bet more teams will want in on the action.
When we first showed up, we took a quick walk around and checked out the sidewalk sales. Lots of good deals to be had, but by the end of the day there was not much left.
Why? Because the streets were packed….with people. What a fantastic turnout. I don’t think anyone expected such a large crowd. I certainly never saw this kind of a crowd at any of the previous Oktoberfests.
Oh and food, food, food. While I could have had bratwurst and sauerkraut, the Rosenfeld Deli food truck was there and I was going to have a pastrami sandwich, no matter how long the line was. Of course, then I had to wait in an even longer line for a beer. But both waits were worth it! Baked desserts had a table full of goodies that I had to have some of, yum! Crush N Crab was there with crabby pretzels and Eastern Shore Kettle Korn was there too. No shortage of treats at this fest!
Vintage Hi-Fi rocked the streets with some classic rock, so yes, we had dancing in the streets. All that and a cornhole tournament. This year’s Oktoberfest was a party with something for everyone. Too bad we can’t do it again next weekend.
