OOH BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE: Berlin’s Art Stroll, A Chilly Indulgence
Friday night brought chilly temperatures, but that couldn’t stop the fun for Berlin’s 2nd Friday Art Stroll. This art stroll was a special one in celebration of Valentine’s Day. “Indulge in Berlin”, was a night filled with sweet and savory treats, wine and other gifts. There was even a wonderful gift basket to be won. Sadly, I didn’t win, but click here to see who did.
Despite the fact that Brad couldn’t make the stroll with me, I had a fantastic time. The night had lots of fun components, the challenge you feel from a scavenger hunt, the excitement you get as a kid out trick or treating and the romance of Valentine’s Day.
First stop was the Visitor’s Center to pick up a map showing all participating vendors. For those hardy enough to visit every participant, get their maps marked and return it to the Visitor Center, there was a shot at a gift basket with all kinds of Berlin goodies. The value of that basket was over $500! But, even without scoring that big basket, I felt like a winner because each vendor offered treats.
Some of my favorite goodies included a bouquet of herbs and seed packet from Bleached Butterfly, a body mist from Atlantic Retreat, a delicious chili from Baked, and so many chocolate treats at other vendors. I love my chocolate! At the Treasure Chest I got my wedding and engagement rings cleaned while enjoying my treats.
At Cupcakes in Bloom, I found Katie, a student at Wor-Wic Community College, creating a candy sculpture.
Downtown Video hosted “Bee Sweet Confections and Desserts” who alongside yummy chocolates had crab and lobster lollipops.
By the time I made it to Saltwater Media, even I was beyond eating any more chocolate, but I am super glad that I stopped. It was exciting for me, a true book lover, to see a flourishing book publisher here in town! Stephanie told me how wonderful her experience in Berlin has been and how supportive the other downtown business owners have been. Apparently the motto among Berlin’s business owners must be “United We Stand”!
Of course I squeezed in a little shopping and picked up some great treats for my house too!
At Nest, I found a scarf that is the perfect colors for me to make into a curtain for my front door and I had a very nice glass of wine.
Bruder Hill, also shared wine with me, while I tried on a dress that I loved but unfortunately didn’t fit. They had special sale prices for the night that were amazingly good! That dress was 70% off….maybe I should save some of that chocolate for Brad and eat a salad instead.
At TaDa, I finally found the perfect hand towels to hang on my newly refurbished medicine cabinet.
Of course, I picked up some Valentine treats for Brad; my personal favorite, cro-clairs at Baked and some homemade candies at On What Grounds Coffee House.
I went home with a bag of goodies and the warm feeling you get that comes only from great conversations. Art, wine, chocolate gifts and friendly people, sum up to a perfect night. Did I ever tell you how much I love this town?
