SATURDAY MORNING BREAKFAST: A Visit to Rayne’s Reef
It’s Saturday morning, just after 8 am in Berlin, MD. There’s no food in the fridge or you are staying in town on a visit. What do you do? Relax! No need to get in your car. A short walk to Rayne’s Reef will fix you right up!
This is exactly what Brad and I did last Saturday morning. If you are familiar with Berlin, you know that most places in town don’t wake up this early, especially if you want a full cooked breakfast. This Saturday I was hungry and we had a big day of work ahead, so proper fortification was necessary. Brad is usually the breakfast chef in our house, but as good as he is, he can’t make breakfast out of air and water!
If you have never been to Rayne’s. It is a wonderful little diner style restaurant in the heart of town, complete with booths, tables and a counter, where you can watch the grill chefs at work. If you saw Runaway Bride, you have seen Rayne’s, but it has been redecorated. Inside you find cheery white wainscoting, bright red walls, movie memorabilia, old war era signage and chrome edged, formica topped tables.
Don’t forget to look up and see the ceiling medallions. Most importantly the staff at Rayne’s is exceptionally friendly. It is very easy to feel right at home in this cozy, sunny restaurant.
This weekend, Brad had a Southwestern omelette and I had scrapple and eggs. The scrapple was sliced thin and cooked on the grill, which happens to be my favorite way to have it. The home fries were also just the way I like them with lots of crispy parts. And the coffee just kept coming. By the time we were done, there was nothing left on our plates, but a little bit of orange marmalade. No excuses not to get to work after that meal!
Some of my other favorite things to get at Rayne’s, but not for breakfast, are ice cream on a hot day and a cherry fountain soda. They have plenty of other flavors you can get in your soda too. Brad has a soft spot for Rayne’s milk shakes.
If you want to stop by the iconic Rayne’s. Here’s what you need to know:
