STUFF FOR THE HOUSE: The Generosity of Friends and Family
What better time than Thanksgiving to reflect on the generosity of family and friends as I look around our new home in Berlin, MD. It is amazing the things that people are willing to share with you when you start a new home. From the small decorative items like the oyster shell wreath that hangs on the mirror in our living room to the shingles on the roof of our new workshop. As I look around our home, almost every spot my eye rests, lies a gift from someone we love. This is what makes a house a home!
Some of my favorite gifts are handmade gifts, like the planter that daughter Katie made me as a Mother’s Day gift.
How about this awesome crab that my Dad painted on burlap for me.
Then there is the tree mirror that my Dad made for my sister and I when we were kids. Now I smile every time I walk up the steps.
We have received many fun and decorative gifts from our friends too. We have frequent visitors, Harry and Kelly to thank for our awesome seaside salt and pepper shakers, as well as dish towels and many shared bottles of wine and treats!
A great game of Berlinopoly and an oyster shell wreath that hangs in our living room from friends for a lifetime, Joe & Dawn.
My sister gave us an awesome throw that seems to go in every room of the house! So I move it around, a lot. This make s Brad plenty happy because it’s a lot easier to change up a look by moving a throw around than by moving furniture around all of the time!
Inherited items that have been around a while, but received new life in our home are everywhere! Some small, some very large. From our dear friend Rosa’s mom, we inherited a microwave and pots and pans – very useful!
There are the functional gifts of furniture shingles, hardware parts for old doors a, the ultimate functional gift! My Mom gifted us tile for our fireplace and curtains that came with fun shopping trips as well!
I also love those gifts I get to play with. The many plants from my Mom’s garden.
We are most grateful for friends and family to share our life in Berlin with! A special thanks to Rosa who brings gifts that no one else can….food that only she can cook. An amazing talent in the kitchen and we benefit from that talent year after year.
